if Lena Horne was born in 17 and debuted at 16 years old than it was 1933, or 34 but not 20s.

CubicAftermath, it's not the same thing. Whites exploited the talents of Blacks. A Black person could not have seem the show, even though the performers were all Blacks. In other words, if your child was performing you could not see them if you were Black. I'm told a Black performers could not even use the toilets in the Cotton Club.

Star, There were also night clubs for blacks. So there were opportunities for black audiences to enjoy this entertainment.

DrGirl777, i’m 1000% sure that’s true, about the toilets. Not only were black performers exploited for their talents, they were Not financially compensated any way even Close to how they should have been. Songs written and First performed by black musicians were literally Stolen by white musicians w/o any kind of compensation whatsoever. That changed with Michael Jackson. Rihanna, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Sean Combs, Drake, Snoop Dogg, … and any other rap musicians of today owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Immortal MJ (RIP, miss his music and presence everyday) for their riches.

NihilisticMole89281, good for them! in an episode of “Different World” from the late 80s early 90s the Still gorgeous Lena Horne was honored on an episode where many of the students performed her hits. the phenomenal Jasmine Guy was one of them, Charnelle Brown (?) might have been another? Jasmine Guy played the part of Whitley Gilbert Wayne, Kimberly Reese was the character played by Ms. Brown?

Player #4236826, then, the queztion is incomplete. it should read 20's and 30's. Lena Horne didn't appear there until1933, when she was 16 (1917+16=1933)
