I have been an organ donor since I was old enough to do so and it isn’t hope that if something were to happen to me I would be able to help another person to have a second chance at living a longer life . People may think it’s odd to give away their body parts after death but for me it’s a form of transcendence to have a part of me love on after my mortal body would normally return to the earth.

Newcomer4626, correction...Naki was a SELF-TAUGHT surgeon yet with such respective skill that he was chosen by Christaan N. Barnard to secretly ASSIST. Sadly and shamefully his contribution was kept secret until the apartheid was over in 1991 (shameful!) Naki left school when he was a very young 14 years old. He was hired as a gardener at University of Cape town, S. Africa. While there, he covertly observed surgeries from which he was able to teach himself th

B*, Not totally unrelated. The heart must be strong enough to help pump fluid out of the lungs. If it isn't, the fluid stays in the lungs, bacteria has a wonderful environment to grow (warm, moisture, dark) and that's how pneumonia thrives. ĺ I'm not saying that was the case here, but a distinct possibility

My 15 year old daughter told me two weeks before God took her home. “Mommy, if anything ever happens to me, I want to donate my organs “. Two weeks later, she had a brain bleed. She was granted her last wish and for that I am grateful.

Newcomer4626, there is (or was) a controversy about his being part of Dr. Bernard’s team, but not about who made the transplant. At best, he was an assistant which doesn’t seem to be so. I know Wikipedia is not the most reliable source of information but you can find there links to the sources of this dispute. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Naki
