If he was born in the era of mental health understanding, Van Gogh could have maybe actually enjoyed the success from his genius artwork. Instead he suffers, makes the world of Art a better place, and someone else gains from his hard work?? Plus also the life story just jacks up the price after death. The human race can be very heartless sometimes. He probably cut his ear off because the poor man would have been hearing voices.

Tanehowl, I agree. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to only get recognition for your amazing art --- after your death. He lived such a depressing life and was full of misery. I wish he could have gotten the fame he deserved while alive.

Vincent van Gogh was one of the artists we studied in Grade 8 Art at high school. - The parents had a baby boy before Vincent and Theo who died at a few months old. Sadly, his name was Vincent and they named the 2nd baby after him. - Bizarre for Vincent to see his own name on a gravestone...

maleficynth, that's so sad yet so true. 😞 I had to see an exhibit of his beautiful work when I was in high school and I remember being blown away by the colors he used. I grew up in NY and it was the Metropolitan Myseum of Art 🎨 Such a cool memory. "Starry Night" by him is my favorite to this day.
