In the story of "The Scarlet Letter" what does the letter 'A' overtly mean?

DAdio, That's right, blame the victim. How about men learn to control their "urges". Back in Puritan times women didn't even show their ankles.

So much has changed since the story was written, but so much has not changed. Women are still getting shamed, and men are still getting away with it. (Not meant to be a comment about judge Cavanaugh's confirmation to US Supreme Court specifically. I think he is innocent.). BUT, there is so much more of it going on, and some men do not take responsibility for their actions.

MeemawSauce5457, The story is more of a comment about the evils of hypocrisy and self-righteousness as we are all guilty of many things. We have no right looking down our noses at others just because their weakness happens to be different from ours. We all need mercy. In the Scarlet Letter the preacher was the father, but Heather wouldn't tell. He eventually came forward at the end.

These days there would be a really large A-list unfortunately too many trying to get on it as if it's a great accomplishment.
