BrassBeam81667, I owned 2 our 1st was my kids faithful companion. She was never aggressive, actually rolled over to avail herself for tummy rubs to anyone allowed in our home.

BrassBeam81667, Hmmm... Not sure about this. Think it is more of how they are raised. My ex in laws had one, a purebred, and he was amazing with my son. Actually watched out for him.

Love German Shepherds. We adopted a stray. One day I was doing some gardening with my 2 year daughter, and she suddenly ran to the middle of the street. Before I could get to my feet, our Shepherd made a dash for her and ran circles around my daughter until I caught up. I was amazed. I'll never forget it. How do animals know they need to respond to some danger?

BrassBeam81667, I grew up with a chow and he would wait at the gate until he saw us round the corner ( 1 block away), on our way home from school and run full speed to greet and walk us home... there were 9 of us and he did it for each one of us. It’s not the breed, it’s the handlers that make or break the animal.

Ziela1313, you hit the nail on the head it's exactly what is needed for raising dogs or anything else even kids if you let them go unchecked they are bound to get into trouble which is gonna come back on the parents. I too had a aggressive dog a Akita and he was also very good around my young daughter at the time but he did have issues with other dogs that weren't in his pack especially Rottweiler

Personally I love Chow Chows. They are beautiful dogs and I've owned 2. Their disposition is dependant on the way they are raised and trained. It is not the dog's fault if they were raised to be aggressive. I never once witnessed any aggression from my dogs around children or other animals including cats.
