Chezikeets, and you are another part of misinformation...dobies and pittie breeds do not have floppy ears that have issues with infections. Ears the dog is born with are SUPPOSED to help keep the ears from getting debris in them causing possible infections. Vets will tell you there is NO medical reason to crop ears or tails as a puppy. it is purely for aesthetic purposes or breed standards.

Chezikeets, ears were originally cropped either so other animals wouldn't rip them off, or so they wouldn't get torn on the briars and underbrush. Although proponents like yourself now try to say it's done to "prevent ear infections", there's zero evidence to support their claim and plenty to disprove them, since the practice has been outlawed in most European countries for decades with no increase in ear infections. So if you're going to cut off your puppy's ears and bandage them for a year, (risking death from anesthetising a young pup, infections from open wounds, and of course you cause them pain- you cut off half their ears! You think that doesn't hurt when they wake up???) At least admit that you're ONLY doing it because you like the way it looks, period.

Chezikeets, You are wrong. Ear cropping and tail docking came about to please humans. Multiple numbers of different breeds of dogs have what you refer to as "floppy ears" and they manage to live long happy lives. I have one!

I'm on my 5 and 6 th dobermen. I have mother and daughter. loveable and cuddly pets. awesome guard dogs for myself as a female. I have nothing bad to say about the breed. the best!

Ignazia11, True. My first Yorkshire terrier had a docked tail, which he would wag enthusiastically. He was a wonderful dog. Fortunately, mutilation is now banned in the UK and our second Yorkie had his tail.

MiSun14, the tails are cut so they can't be grabbed by it. It's called a security cut and it's supposed to be cut at a 3 knuckle length.

MiSun14, I think cropping is normally a standard ear in the USA. Presumably because it makes them look fierce.

I have only seen a handful of Dobermans over the last 30- 40 years, and most of those were miniatures
