Used to have gerbils and breed them. Accidentally grabbed one by its tail and the tail remained in my hand, only the bone stayed. So yeah don't ever attempt to hold them by the tail. BTW I took it to the vet and it was fine. I was 12 at the time.

My sister in law had a gerbil. Every time the fridge was opened it made a terrible racket. It expected a treat of lettuce or other vegetable and wouldn't stop until it received its treat.

I heard that in Australia it’s illegal to only have one gerbil. That’s because it’s a shame to make one live it’s life in isolation.

I live in Southern California and they sell gerbils at the pet store, Petsmart has them. not so sure they are illegal if found in chain pet stores....
