no music plays during the chase (unheard-of!). just the glorious hum and thumping of the two motors- and peeling tires.

Fun fact: this very car chase features a continuity error that shows numerous repeated cuts, as identified by a green VW Beetle being overtaken several times!

In every movie I have seen him, he never gave a bad performance and was indeed the definition of cool without question.

Once, in order to save a little money, I rented a manual (stick-drive) car when visiting San Francisco. Even though I drove stick at home all the time, it was a bad, bad idea in SF. But, I got through by thinking through the car chase scenes in Bullitt!

My buddies Dad was a Hollywood stunt driver on this film. He has a very impressive resume and lived a very incredible life doing a lot of movie stunts.

Ridgeway14559, wrong 390,was the engine size, earlier Shelby mustangs that were gt350 or gt 500,was for the amount of torque in small vs big block power!

Rick Hager, yes, and the mustang had wide radials, not skinny bias ply tires, so the mustang had the advantage, plus a much lighter car, still would be a bear with the big block engine and all drum brakes, still the best ever chase scene

Absolutely iconic movie that everyone needs to see. It paints a picture of what life was like in the sixties and seventies. The Chase scenes in which Steve McQueen drives was trilling to say the least. I don't believe he used a stunt man.

My husband and I had a '66 Dodge Charger straight off the line. Montana Patrol closed off a section of highway to click 2 of them. 165 mph with no modifications. I only put ito 120. It was too light in the rear for the size engine in it.

LilRed Firefly, you may have the years mixed up. the Mustang II was a much smaller and different shaped car and didn't get released until '73-'74. in '71 the Mustang was long bodied with a high rear deck lid and had the designation "MACH-I". (pronounced mock-one the speed of sound)

UnwarrantedGlovepete, Yes, but now it's becoming a place where Homeless people sleep & defecate on the sidewalks, and throw their needles in the street. It really is a SAD sight to see. However, it will NOT change with the current administration (city government) in power.
