I read the hobbit to my daughter when she was 10. she wanted me to read LOTR to her, and I was reluctant to read her the best book she would ever read in her life at such a young age. we read it to one another when she was 12 She still plays LOTR on line with her brother

I have only read The Hobbit -and enjoyed it so much I plan to try LOTR. There's an excellent movie about young Tolkien too.

it is quite something to create an imaginary world which outlives the creator..

The Hobbit made me cry when I first read it around about the age of 7, Tolkien and CS Lewis were the authors(along with David Gemmell) who got me into the genre of fantasy, we now call my daughter in law Frodo as she is short and has hairy feet!!!! 😂

Guillermo Jr., Quite, including languages. The Silmarillion is a heavier read but gives the history of Middle Earth before The Third Age. Great mind and The Hobbit was written as light relief to send to his son whilst he was serving in the war.
