I'm Canadian and lacrosse is huge in the city I'm from. Our lacrosse team, The Peterborough Lakers have won the Mann Cup numerous times. It's a fast, highly skilled and aggressive game. I think of it similarly to hockey in enjoyment. If you've never seen a game try to find one and watch. You won't regret it.

SanJK85, you asked "what was is originally called?"
It was originally** "Le cross" indicating masculine in French, but they had to change it to "La cross" when they realised it was played by a bunch of girls.
** not true at all. just a joke.

Dwyer, je suis Canadienne. Lacrosse used to be Canada's only official sport, but in recent years it became Canada's official summer sport with ice hockey becoming our official winter sport.

I prefer to watch our lacrosse team, The Roughnecks, here in Calgary over hockey! Their slogan is "come for the party, stay for the game" - a lot of fun!
