I have always been fascinated by these beautiful birds. Just amazing.
AstroScout
My bird watching parents have a feeder right outside the kitchen window, very cool. These birds are very territorial, won't tolerate another at the same feeder. Fun to watch.

One day a hummingbird flew into a window at our farmhouse. Husband said "Forget it...he's dead!" I said "we'll see." I placed him in a tiny teacup. I felt wonderous and priviledged to have actually held a hummingbird in my hand. I laughed as my husband cursed when the tiny creature flew through the house with hubby chasing him with a broom. I simply opened the door and the bird left the house. I will never forget it or the fact that hubby threw me out...best thing that ever happened!

I actually caught one with my thumb and index finger! He was hitting into the window in the garage.he or she didn't get the idea to go out big open door. He would have broke his neck beating on that window. I couldn't believe I caught him. His tiny heart was pounding. I let him go and he zoomed into the sky.

I have a humming bird nest on the roof of my porch, returns every other year. They are fascinating to watch
Birdiemom
constantgamer0421, I found one apparently frozen on the feeder, but when the sun came out, he took off! They go into a 'torpor' when it's very cold.

They nest in our yard every year. They’re absolutely precious, and are not afraid of us. They come pretty close to us, and it’s how I knew they could fly backwards.

AstroScout, I had 2 at the same time at my feeder last Friday.

Canis Lupus, why would your hubby chase after a bird with a broom? Does he not like animals? I hope he’s any abusive towards you. Love and light. Take care.

We were in New Mexico and stopped at a restaurant that had 50ish hummingbird feeders all around it that were being very actively visited by large green hummingbirds. The owner told us that they migrate every year from New Mexico to British Columbia and not only come back to the same area but to the same feeder. They appear to get upset if their feeder has been removed or relocated. And they were very territorial about their feeder.

The heart of a hummingbird can beat as fast as 1,260 beats per minute, which is the rate measured in a Blue-throated Hummingbird, or as slow as 50-180 beats per minute on a cold night when they experience torpor, a hibernation-like state.
