in January 1976 Elvis was here in Denver Colorado on vacation. He purchased a handful of new Cadillacs and gave them away to policemen and a doctor. When the local tv news station heard about his buying spree, the news anchor reported "if you're listening Elvis, I'd like one too". The next day the news anchor had a new Cadillac waiting for him! what an amazing guy!!

johnnyzoom7, Only because he was considered the first "rock star" but many very famous singers long before Elvis were addicted to drugs. Billie Holiday was a heroine addict, Jerry Lee Lewis was a cocaine addict as well as pills and that is only two. It is a shame that that's how he is remembered but unfortunately in the end it is how many people saw him. Not the amazing singer and actor (although his movie roles were cheesy I loved them all) he truly was.

HaugWilde, good answer! Elvis was a very loving son and took care of his mom until she passed away. He had a true gift, his voice was amazing! He was truly ahead of his time and it's a shame that the Cornel took advantage of him! And as for drugs, yes it's a horrible shame how addicted he was to drugs. He must have been so lonely and depressed. He was in so much pain, so he turned to drugs and alcohol trying to stay numb and get thru the days and nights. I truly miss him. He was king of rock and roll, but there is only one who is king of kings, the prince of peace and Lord of Lords. I hope he asked for forgiveness before he passed.

RobinChristian, Elvis was actually given high praise by critics for his role in King Creole. He was an excellent actor and arrived on set with all his lines and the lines of anybody in a scene with him memorized. He just got locked into a contract that had him appearing in any movie they wanted him in and he couldn't turn it down no matter how crappy the role or bad the story. He often lamented that fact and cursed the name of Hal Wallis for all the garbage that he made him do.

FuschiaEldrich905, In the South in the decades preceding the 60s, it was very common for girls as young as 12 to marry grown men. This was due to the hardship faced by people of those times and the desire to produce as many children as possible and a young wife allowed for that. Jerry Lee Lewis' sister was 12 when she married and Jerry himself married his cousin Myra when she was 13. Elvis met Priscilla when she was 14. it was the custom of their culture and location. Not right by today's standards, but it wasn't illegal at the time either.

gearheadgirl, Back then doctors didn't make nearly the kind of money they do now and many would quietly provide services and medications for free if people didn't have much money. Housecalls were still a thing in many if not most places. That was loooong before insurance companies took over the medical field, and all of the technological advances that have been made over the past half century. It was a different time.

The pink Cadillac Elvis was famous for was actually a gift from Kitty Wells, whom just so happens to be the one that introduced him to producers in the music industry that helped him become famous. The car was given back to her when he passed, where it has sat in her museum in Tennessee.

I truly believe that if Elvis had lived just a bit longer he world have got the help he needed. I think he would have pursued serious acting movie rolls (more character rolls as her aged) and his legacy would have been amazing....
