One of my many, many, teachers (my mom moved us/me endlessly) read this book to us, about 20 min a day after lunch. I'm guessing I was in about 5th grade and it was my introduction to chapter books and their ability to tell a story better than a movie. I loved the book and remember that most of us kept our heads on our desks hoping to mask the tears brought about from feelings of sadness or happiness. That experience (and teacher) opened my world and lifelong love and reverence for the importance of reading. Something I made my mission to pass forward during my 61 yrs so far.
