I went to Hawaii expecting to see them on trees...like bananas. Big surprise that they were on short "bushes"!

I was on Oahu back when pineapple processing was a big employer. You could drive thru Honolulu with the pineapple plant in one direction and the sugar plant in another. Always smelled like you were on a pineapple upside down cake.

pinneaple's were such a hit when they were discovered by the Europeans that the Indians noticed it and started leaving lots of pineapples on the beach so when the white man arrived they would collect all the pineapples and give the Indians time to organize . The Europeans also liked to place them at their houses entrance for guests to see , that's why many bars still put pineapples at display as its a known welcome symbol.

Candy671, was thinking the same. I spent a lot of years on Guam when I was in the Navy (lived in Dededo.) I still get irritated when mainlanders forget that Guamanians are US vitizens.
