If you haven't seen this film do yourself a favor and watch it. it's great with a spouse or loved one, but it's not bad by yourself either. Bring tissues.

robertthemoose14, correct! the mouse was originally the pet of the cajun prisoner, Eduard Delacroix, who was executed partway through the film. afterwards he was occasionally fed by the guards but eventually ended up with Tom Hanks character, Paul Edgecomb.

Cloudwalker, No, by the end he was Tom Hanks' characters pet, when he was telling the entire story to a woman that was in the retirement home with him; he took her out to the side house/shed to see "the circus mouse" and said thaen that he believed that the mouse had been alive so long due to John Coffey putting life back into him.

IMHO a primary point of the movie is that Coffey was innocent and Hanks' character came to that realization but was unable to do anything about it.

Read this book first! when the movie came out I made a point to see it! As usual, the book was better, but overall the movie was pretty good ! Tom Hanks surprised me as a serious actor because I always thought of him as a stand up comedian, and comedic actor! I thought he was a bad actor from his role on the sitcom he did where I believe he played a character called Kip! Pleasantly surprised when he made it as a serious actor!

Mr Jingles! The jangles debate is due to DALEs cajun dialect as well as the guards deep southern accent

constantgamer0421, I believe Steven King's wife told him to give an ending to the mouse. In the original manuscript he left out what happens to the mouse.

One of the best Steven King books/movies ❤ Also one of the best Tom Hanks movies. I also loved the big guy, I am terrible with names. He was really the best and made the movie what it was. My opinion.

I can neither watch this film or read the novel without tearing up, and I am not embarrassed about it. Stephen King wrote it so incredibly well, and the film was a decent adaptation with talented actors and a decent director, which is rare! So many book adaptations go to waste because the producers want to make money, rather than movie magic. The Green Mile was an incredible exception to that theory!

micron9999, Agree. Tom Hanks has done a great job of bringing out that anguish as he tries to save Coffey.

micron9999, that's correct, but Coffey ( like the drink but spelled different) didn't want to live in a world where he had to constantly experience the horrors & evils people committed or were subjected to. Today he'd be called an empath ( like Deanna Troy on Star Trek (NG, I think)
