I'll take "Moonlight" over No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2 anytime. Bet even professional classical musicians have a hard time remembering not just Beethoven, but all compositions using this nomenclature.

WaldoLydeker, True. I am a classical-trained pianist. It really is hard to refer to classical works by their catalogue/publication numbers, which were given by scholars/publishers and not by the composers themselves. That's why most of the popular classical repertoire have nicknames, such as Moonlight, Waldstein, Appassionata, Les Adieux, Tempest, and Pathetique (6 of Beethoven's most popular piano sonatas). His symphonies had nicknames also, such as Fate (the most popular Fifth Symphony), Eroica, Pastorale and Chorale Symphony.

beethoven was a true musical genius. his 9th symphony and 5th symphony are beautiful. he was inlove with a woman he couldn't marry because she was above his station.

A lovely piece of music, my Mum's favourite. I don't play piano, but years ago could play just this piece by ear, by listening and practising. I can't do it now. If I had my time again I'd want to learn the piano from early childhood. I was 40 when I inherited a piano and wished I could play it... but it's too late to be any good at it by then.
