Our plastic owl perched in our holly tree seems to work in scaring away blue jays and robins from messing on our fence and sidewalk under the tree.

We used to call our thesis submissions in engineering as scare crows since they were unnecessarily bulky and full of references - and that was in US of A, where we are taught brevity from day 1 at work. So coming from india where we love to fill papers in the exam, thesis was more of the same. But first year at consultancy was tough as I had to unlearn and be brief.
