What is produced in the Bessemer process?

In eastern Michigan there is much the same with the Bessemer name plastered all over. That area by Alpena is known for iron ore and shipping.

Player Ejag, my dad worked at the Duquesne works for years. I remember watching the huge, billowing clouds of white or orange coming up over the buildings. The orange ones stank of sulphur.

The first steel mill using this process was in Wyandotte Michigan. I grew up in that town. Sad to see that industry leave the area.

Kim, I used to love it there! I rented many little living quarters there while in my 20s. Now I visit and love the memories. Pueblo didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would, yet it isn't what I would recommend for most. Absolutely fabulous food in the restaurants.

Player Ejag,The Station Square Mall in downtown Pittsburgh, along the Monongahela River, has a huge Bessemer Converter on the grounds which explains the process of converting pig iron into steel. The mall is lovely in itself with dancing fountains, restaurants, history and a grand view of Pittsburgh. It’s also the boarding site for the Gateway Clipper Fleet which takes riverboat tours up and down Pittsburgh’s 3 Rivers. There is a small city named Bessemer north of Pittsburgh. Please forgive me. I’m a lover of Pittsburgh. The city has done so much for me and my loved ones. Anything I can do to promote this special place to others, I’ll do even if it’s on a quiz game!
