A Die is also a metal mold .
You make a mold ..a Die....and you pour molten metal in to it to cast a shape into the shape of the Die.
But first you must cast the Die which is the most difficult part and once done you never have to cast it again. So once the Die is cast that's everything set for a full production run , otherwise all is set and cant be changed. The Die is cast. Nothing to do with throwing dice.
