I would like to get an understanding of the game of cricket and then actually watch a big game from beginning to end. I confess ~ I'm intrigued by the idea of how the game goes on for days and they have meal breaks.

SQinfoNUTS, It's the only sport I really love. Currently the World Cup is on but being played in England so the middle of the night here in Australia. I have to record it and watch it the next day. Currently we're doing well. Won 3, lost 1.

SQinfoNUTS, I'm no expert, but among the various variations of cricket it's the Test Match that can last up to five days. Confusingly, both teams wear "whites" in test matches: white trousers, shirt, off-white jumper, white leg pads and, for the batsmen, a navy blue helmet. Each team gets two innings, each inning lasting as long as it takes to get ten of the eleven batsmen out – there are always two batsmen on the pitch at a time, one at each end. A batsman can be run out (a fielder touches the wicket with the ball before the batsman reaches the "crease" (a line in front of the wicket) with his bat, caught, LBW (leg before wicket, when the umpire judges that the ball would have hit the wicket if the batsman hadn't blocked it with his leg), or bowled (when the ball hits the wicket). A bowler bowls one over at a time, which consists of six deliveries. Runs are scored by the two batsmen running to the opposite wicket, if a ball crosses the boundary which scores four runs (the boundary is marked by a rope that surrounds the field), or if a ball crosses the boundary before hitting the ground which scores six runs. The game can be delayed by rain or bad light and there are breaks for lunch and tea (around 17:00). Such a civilised game 😉! The atmosphere is a big part of the experience and is as much a social event as anything else. Limited overs matches (usually 50) tend to be have much riskier & aggressive batting and were introduced to be more TV friendly.

India is out. If you were betting on the Kiwis you probably got longer odds. Hoping England lifts the trophy from the colonials...
