Don't ever plant bamboo! It's an invasive species and will take over.

yes indeed bamboo is a member of the grass family. Depending on where you live and what's around in the area you can actually watch it grow in the course of a day.

flowercat0523, it really depends on the type and where you are located! Decorative bamboo (I am not sure of its proper name) does not spread, it just grows up. I base this on my years of experience growing different types

flowercat0523,
There are several types of Bamboo you just happened to have the type that was in and I e there are many types that are not! Look it up I had an entire fencing area made of bamboo that was over 40 feet high ! Made a perfect privacy fence for noisy neighbors, had it for over 23 years before moving and had no problems with it staying right where I planted it. It did fill in and once a year my husband and I would trim it but nothing like the bamboo in which you are speaking!!!

Player Descon
