Iceland and Greenland were settled around the same time. The people who named Iceland, did not want other people to move into their discovered territory. They decided if they named their territory Iceland, others would think the territory was extremely cold and incapable of any vegetation. The people of Greenland settled in a territory, where it is freezing cold and farming is impossible. However, the people there wanted settlers, so they thought the name of Greenland, would bring in settlers.

New Zealand also has these beautiful (and smelly) wonders. Amazing to bathe in but some are so hot they would boil you alive. The smell is not always prevalent. They also sell the mud from certain lagoons as soap and face masks

My late husband was stationed in Reykjavik in the '50s. I met him in '61 and he told me then that streets stayed clear all winter because of the geothermal phenomenom.

Diane, Who states pictures are meant to be the answer? Just because majority of these questions have often shown answers in the pictures, people start to take for granted all follow up questions from previous meant to be the answer. Obviously tricked you into believing this. The pictures are to test us, not necessarily give us the answer just because majority of peoples assume this and think they’re more clever by stating it’s all too easy.

SparkyChaz2018, I always wondered why the two names were opposite of how the lands were. That’s actually how I discern the difference between the two bc I just remember opposite of names lol

Bucket list holiday, Blue Lagoon, Midnight Sun, beautiful Reykjavik, awesome seafood restaurants, lovely friendly people. We stayed in Grindavik, a fishing village with old ship wrecks along the coast, volcanos and geysers inland. Close to the American / European tectonic plates rift, which activate the volcanos and geysers.

SparkyChaz2018, that's not exactly correct. Greenland was indeed named to encourage settlers but Iceland was settled a considerable while before Greenland and the man credited with settling Greenland did so because he was exiled from Iceland. Iceland is named after a failed settlement attempt in which the settlers essentially forgot about preparing for winter and then woke up one day to a lot of icebergs blocking the bay they'd settled and the temperature had dropped so they grumpily left

The blue lagoon is indeed amazing. Unfortunately, the last time I was there they had increased the entrance fee from something like $8 to $40.
