If it had won Best Film, Crowe would have set an absolute unbeatable record: 3 Best Films in 4 years - "Gladiator" & "A Beautiful Mind" rounding it out. Previous record held 23 years: Gable, 3 films in 6 years matched by Jack Hawkins in 1962. That record still holds. Look at Streep. Initially, she had back-to-back, "The Deer Hunter" & "Kramer vs Kramer", but she had to wait another 6 years for "Out of Africa", so her record is 8. Not too shabby. She could have set the record with 5, in 1982 with "Sophie's Choice", but, alas, film was not nominated. Saint Meryl did all right. She won her second Oscar.

IVE ALWAYS LIKED RUSSELL CROWES ACTING ESPECIALLY GLADIATOR. MASTER AND COMMANDER IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. HE IS SO COOL!I'll pretty much wTch him in anything he does. the ONLY ONE I DIDNT LIKE WAS VIRTUOAITY.
