Rottweiler616, Amen! In grade school, middle school, high school or college! From 3rd grade through high school, every time I had US history, it was the same time period, leading up to Declaration of Independence! I used the same paper on Thomas Jefferson from 3rd grade, 5 times! I just updated it a bit each time! Never got any history about my state, or any other time period. I finished college thinking I hated History. But I found out later, that it was just the s school book's. presentation that I hated. IT'S BORING! Now I love learning about history!

Player #2732475, The French may not have had the resources to completely defend it, but they wouldn't have just abandoned it. We could probably have taken it in war, but not without losing lives and France as an ally-things worth much more than $15 million. A good buy and the reason for one of Mt. Rushmore's faces.

Reading all the comments about people who are learning a lot of American history by the questions causes me to be very concerned about what our children have been learning in school, if anything. I went to school in the 1950's & 1960's and know all this stuff. (history, spelling, Grammer, literature, math, science. etc.). I am concerned about our country's future.

that's stolen Native American land okay what do you want the to do turn it all over to the Native Americans? before the white man came everyone in the North America and South America were stuck in the Stone Age and we're stealing land from one another there was also cannibalism human sacrifice and the Navajo almost were completely wiped out so genocide I do however I think we should be treating the land better than what we are controlling stop using plastic for everything all our food comes in plastic but we'll save the world by not using plastic bags that's just wishful thinking

The French just claimed the Louisiana territory when it came to European colonists. The only actually had control of New Orleans. The majority of the territory was still controlled by Native Americans. So Jefferson purchased the European claim but it wasn’t really controlled or owned by Europe. It was a good deal for the Americans but the French just settled New Orleans and “claimed” ownership of the land that wasn’t really ever theirs. The French got money for practically nothing. Good deal for the Americans and the French. The losers in the deal were the Native Americans.
