What was Dorothea Lange's profession?

I saw a retrospective of her work @ the SF MOMA. She really knew how to capture the intensity of the scenes and the souls if her subjects.

I've seen depression era photos that might have been her work - very graphic depictions of the suffering & adversity of many folks. It was a sad time in American history.

She was mentioned in an earlier question as being a photographer.
