Koplfer, that was a heartbreaking and horrifying story. It was much more rare to hear about things like that back then. Nowadays, everywhere you turn there's a story about that darker side of human nature. Regardless, I don't think you can characterize an entire state based on one evil woman. Carnivals (and carnies) were common back then as was taking care of your neighbor's kids.
