Most of the film adaptations were quite good too, especially A Walk In The Clouds, which I'd say is top of the list with Message In A Bottle, The Longest Ride, Nights In Rodanthe and Dear John following.

He lived in New Bern, NC for decades, I used to ride on the boat on the Trent River past his home during the summer, and met him at the bowling alley once. Great guy! Also donated the money for New Bern High Schools new track for track&field. Heard he has since moved though.

my daughter was never a reader growing up except required reading until her best friend recommended reading one of his books (I THINK the Notebook) I believe she has read all of them now. she didn't start until she was an adult
