The most amazing series ever!Inspired me to become a mom (had 7 kids also) Something girls dont have an interest in today according to statistics.They think there is something more fulfilling possibly.I found family and the Love of God the most rewarding! Nancie1967, thanks for the details. I lived in Amherst County, next to Nelson County, where Schuyler is. Back when the series was on, it was neat to watch a program and then go figure out the real location from the story. Had to watch out for moonshiners on back roads, though :)

The real life town that Earl Hamner grew up in was Schuyler VA. His father worked in the local soapstone factory. There is a museum dedicated to The Waltons there, and the original house the Hamners lives in is open for tours.
I loved the show. I also wish there were shows today that held the same values.
