Bad explanation! Basically, the Bastille was a prison-military bunker in Paris where the king kept imprisoning lots of people who upset him... just "because", with no real charges or sentences. Finally, his subjects revolted & charged the Bastille to free the prisoners. So, to prevent a total massacre the head guard just unlocked the doors and let all the prisoners go. That is the abbreviated version of Bastille Day.

There were only 6 prisoners in the Bastille when the French citizens "stormed" it.

Ah yes, the day in 1789 when the infamous Bastille Prison in the Kingdom of France was stormed by French revolutionaries that freed nearly seven French prisoners that it was holding at the time of the French Revolution. Very bad days for the French monarchy, such as King Louis XVI of the Barbon dynasty.
