What was the name of the settlement which occupied the space in New York, now called Central Park?

Wish this shameful piece of history was in the very distant past & that we'd evolved way past it. Unfortunately, right now in this day & age the President of the US is spouting the same kind (some of same words/phrases) that would have been used then.
