As a child of the Cold War, I would sit in class, trying to imagine the child they said was my enemy far, far away. Was she afraid like me? Did she love to run and laugh like me? It would make me sad, asking myself if she felt with a child's heart, not a communist's or capitalist's.
The images of this symbol coming down brought tears to my eyes as I thought of her, always real to me, healing that child's heart.
