Louis XIV was obsessed with the opulance of being King of France, while ignoring the common folk of his country who suffered in starving poverty. This seeded the horrific French Revolution and resulted in his grandson, and last monarch of France to lose his life on the guillotine, together with his wife. His child, a boy, suffered abuse in a prison until he died. The history behind these grand edifices of the obscenely weathy is not so pretty.
