The character of Scarlet OHara was spoiled, petulant and heroic. She was in love with Ashley Wilkes. When Ashley’s wife, Melanie, was in childbirth Scarlet had the perfect opportunity to abandon her to die. Instead, Scarlet delivered the baby herself and then personally took Melanie and the baby through enemy lines 20 miles to her home at Tara.

Daybonn, the book was so much better. Scarlett was a much stronger character in the book.

Daybonn, yes Scarlett was spoiled but when faced with these circumstances she was a true southern lady, she delivered Melanie’s baby and doctored her and Ashley back to health. She found her true love was Rhett and lost him but in the next book , her hardheadness won her the towns respect and won Rhett’s heart!!

A movie that's really about the rapid decline & death of the "Antebellum" Southern States. The end of an ugly chapter in United States History. A time when the Southern States made an attempt to "Un-unite" the States over the issue of states right to govern themselves free of Federal interference. Is it spelled out in the Constitution? I don't know, but I'd like to hear from a scholar of Constitutional studies.

ChampionNymph37634, all powers not specifically granted to the federal government in the Bill of Rights are held by the respective states. In practice, this has always been an issue between states and the Fed. While the South claims states' rights were the reason for the war. In reality, the only "state right" that amounted to any significant issue was slavery. I recommend reading the Federalist Papers, in which Hamilton, Madison, and sometimes Jay explain to the people of New York what the proposed Constitution would mean and why it was written as it was. South Carolina was given ten years to stop trading slaves, and the idea was for slavery to end. Many parts were written to discourage slavery or slaveholding. The 5/8 rule, for example, was meant to keep slave states from increasing their representation in Congress by counting all their (nonvoting) slaves as people. The abolitionists pushed back on the proposal to not count slaves at all, as that would establish that slaves weren't human. The idea was to end slavery in 1808, but it never happened. The slave states and their allies found ways to push the can down the road (sound familiar?) until it finally exploded into the Civil War. It is a fascinating and enlightening read.

The Burning of Atlanta was the first scene shot long before they actually started filming. The Fire of Atlanta was the Wall from The"King Kong"Set. MGM filmed the Burning and used it as a back ground..😎

ChampionNymph37634, The Constitution allows for new states to join the United States. It says nothing about them leaving the U. S. A Supreme Court case (Texas vs White) in 1869 held that secession was not permitted and that the Union was insoluble.

A major portion of the studio was burned to film that scene. Vivien Leigh is said to have been introduced to David O. Selznick that very night. The rest was history!
