chemistry teacher here...decomposition is also correct.

Timbo, but decomposition can occur without electricity, just heat is enough. Whereas electrolysis requires electricity to start the reaction, hence electrolysis is the more appropriate answer (esp since multiple choice questions require the most suitable answer, even if other answers are correct but less relevant)

those were fun experiments back in the day and i hope schools teach this way . my science teacher went so far as to teach us how to build a still. come to think of it he was an alcoholic but made science interesting.

On the other hand, I love this game! Especially the part wherein the answer comes with a source of info. which the person can read further! 😁

Kathy, Pure, distilled water is a insulator ( non-conductor) but just the salt from your hand will allow it to conduct!

I'm no authority on this subject, and in fact guessed the wrong answer. However it seems to me from all the comments and the explanation that 'Decomposition' sho have been the correct answer. Am I right in thinking that Electrolysis, in itself, isn't a reaction, but simply a technique used to provide enough energy to the reaction process - that reaction being Decomposition?

I suggest you use other references aside from Wikipedia because it's not always credible since it can be done by anyone. 😊

I really don't have any idea for this question. But the logic was that the Question was containing the word 'electricity' and the answer was also related to electricity 😆
