What are baby squirrels called?

I hand reared one after his mum dropped him and didn't come back, just a few days old. He was fascinating, extremely intelligent and very funny. I lost him last year a couple weeks before his 5th birthday and I was devastated. I'd do it all again though.

I raised one as a teen. His name was Skeeter, and he was so sweet and funny as a little guy. He would make a nest in my long hair on the pillow and nap with me. However, when puberty hit... yikes! He got mean and aggressive. We were able to successfully release him back into the wild when he was about 2 or 3.

My dog goes crazy at the sight of a squirrel. He believes they are evil creatures bent on murdering us all in our beds.

We used to have a family of flying squirrels in our backyard.

Lately we have beautiful black squirrels, very small and delicate, but fierce. I was told they are from Canada.

The American gray squirrel has driven out the fine old English red squirrel in Britain. As an American, I can say we almost never think of ourselves as exporting invasive species to others.
