EarliestSpur6, Yes it's used to culture bacteria for the purpose of testing sensitivity to antibiotics.

I remember using an agar solution in Petri dishes. Bacteria love it apparently.

Delan1947, what are you talking about? The arctic forests are nowhere near as large, dense, or biodiverse. You might want to look that up because that's a fairly well established fact.
