My grandmother taught me to knead bread as a little girl. I also helped her slaughter chickens from her cicken-yard. I would catch one and hold it while she held the head over a block and whacked it's head off. Since I stayed with her while mother was employed away from home, she taught me many other things like do the best you can at any job, respect for others, obedience, never be late, etc. She injected these valuable things to my upbringing. I feel she gave me strength to my life.

Whacking the head of a chicken instead of just cutting it off with a hatchet seems rather cruel to me. My father used an ax and told me the chicken wouldnt feel anything after a second or so. He held the chicken himself after calming it down.
