Who is the woman in the picture?
Correct answer: Rosa Parks
Can Man
Miss Parks lived out her life in my home state of Michigan, the infamous bus is at a local museum and we even named a boulevard after her. Very iconic woman, she was.

Player #4040911, she was charged with civil disobedience for not giving up her seat to a white person; read once that she said having just finished a hard workday, she didn't want to stand so a white person could sit
tinabobina
What an awesome woman!
Canis Lupus
When is this going to end? We areALL equal! I worked in Civil Rights 50 years ago. I happen to be caucasion though I don't even like to bring that up. I was spit on by a man and his wife. who were also white. Why should we be all be identified by a word meaning a color? recognized by a word indicating color? So very overdue for acceptance that we are all equal
Player #2894587
And why should she give up her seat? The idiotic law makers had a lot to answer for back then. What a inspirational lady!

elena58th
How could she be in violation of segregation laws if she was sitting in the "coloureds" section?
DeDark Queendom
by the comments I can tell some of you don't understand that racism was and always will be about hate. it doesn't have to make sense, it never did. It didn't matter what the law was. The problem is not being a Black American, the problem is that the hater is racist. Black is and always will be Beautiful.
BamaBell
elena58th, because back then Whites thought they were god like if they said anything to a Black person the Black person had to obey or get arrested or lynched

StringedInstructor2, Meekness in this case means calm control, the opposite of rage or wrath.

Claudette Colvin was the first one, who refused to give up her seat; a little known fact. However, due to her age (15), and status she was not taken seriously. However, Mrs Rosa Parks, although, a Domestic, had class, determination and the ability to represent the Cause. Sadly, today, we are still without real peace in these United States due to the reoccurrence of hatred.
Player #68594183
Can Man, That’s interesting but very iconic woman she is (not was), as icons can live forever.

elena58th,
Because the bigots decreed that if the white section was full, they could take seats from people in the colored section.

She wasn’t the first there was a lessor known lady some 20 yrs earlier whose name escapes me .. though I dare say many others also but were punished severely. Thank goodness for the courageous of heart no matter the colour of ones skin to have courage is something that comes from within. I say thank you to all those hero’s.

YOU GO GIRL
Uninitialized
The name of the first to do it should be known-and much as Rosa Parks deserves credit,I wonder what would have happened to a male who tried the same.
Ms. Smoveop2
Uninitialized, it was a white male that demanded the seat.
Player #9442102
elena58th, back then if a white person wanted a seat the black person was to give up their seat regardless where it was!
Player #1214866
does anyone know about the person she was asked to give up her seat for? Male or female? age? Not that she should be required in any case, I was just wondering if the white person was demanding the seat, or if the driver just decided.
Nudnick
Claudette Colvin!
