I've seen a few movies that featured Clark Gable. My mother loved him & swore he was the greatest actor of all time. I think she was in love with him because he looked like my father, who was a good looking guy in his own right. Had Gable's mysterious charm as well. Too bad nature didn't pass those qualities to me. Anyway, I fail to see any extraordinary acting quality in Gable's work. At best he was an "average" actor, as are most attractive male actors who achieve stardom. Am I just envious? You bet!

I saw "It Happened One Night" when they had a movie night, back when I was in college. Gable & Claudette Colbert were marvelous in what has to be one of the best romantic comedies ever.

What makes Clark Gable stand out is his unique personality and distinctive voice. Same for other famous actors of that era. I can't say that for most entertainers that came a generation later.
