Who wrote the fairy tale "Thumbelina"?

I read a lot of fairy tales, but missed this one. I knew the name, possibly from 60s ads for a Thumbelina wind-up baby doll. For any other curious Americans, a cockchafer is a member of the scarab beetles, also called a maybug that lives mostly in Europe - weird name to be sure. I'm glad she found true love.
