The film "Capote", starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote, of course touches on this, shows his fascination with the men who committed the murders; how he was so enthralled by one of them, got a stay of execution so he could continue to interview them for his book....really an excellent film and, in my opinion, Hoffman's best performance ever. If you haven't yet, I do suggest watching it.

my aunt lived in Oletha, KS when this was being filmed. She worked for a car dealer. Well, she had to go to the bank for her boss amd ended up driving right through the area of town where they were filming in his brand new Caddy. After they moved to a different location, she drove through the filming a second time. Ha, I would love to see those clips!

Capote was such a troubled person, very sensitive. He was jealous of other authors who got awards he did not, even his long-time friend, Harper Lee, who included his childhood character in her book. It was unfortunate that he became involved in so much substance abuse later in life. Perhaps he could have succeeded more in his writing if he'd gotten treatment for his problems.

For anyone who’s never seen the other answers listed, “Anatomy Of A Murder” is also an excellent film, probably the best courtroom procedural ever made. A late Jimmy Stewart role.

I remember reading the book when I was in the 8th grade. I thought it was amazing. The movie is excellent, too. Robert Blake played one of the murderers.
