Jew for Yeshua, you are confusing it. The one which broke up and crashed into Jupiter was the Shoemaker-Levy comet in 1994. Hale-Bopp has an orbital cycle of 2355 years and the next predicted perhelion in the year 4380-ish. On the other hand, Hanson's MMMBop comes around all too frequently.

A little more info would be great in the answer. Such as where it was visable, how long until it orbits back

I was in the 10th grade when this occurred. I would sit out on my balcony for hours watching it...It's what turned me on to astronomy.

One of the most amazing night sky sights we ever saw. We had purchased a telescope and the sales person said don’t count on seeing Hale Bopp through it! He was wrong, we did and the tail moving about in our scope was amazing!

Heaven's Gate Cult believed they were going to be transferred into a spaceship hidden by Hale-Bopp. Sadly, none of them are left to ask about it☹️
