luckycatfay
I've just answered a question back a while that said 90% was grown in Brazil so how do you get 70%in Africa? Guess out of 160% hey.

my coffee's from Africa and dark chocolate from Swiss - my soy milk is from USA or China and I'm having tea in Finland - that's why I enjoy the comments

I honestly didn't know this. I could have swore I had heard it was mostly grown somewhere else before.

A more interesting fact about coco production in Ghana is (from Wikipedia) As of 2017, approximately 2.1 million children in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire were involved in harvesting cocoa, carrying heavy loads, clearing forests, and being exposed to pesticides

I’m not sure if the answers were phrased in such a way to give a hint to the player i.e. 3 countries for an answer vs one continent. It would be good to update this with a more specific answer being Ghana

Under Dog, Interesting how MUCH cruelty abuse and murder of children is being exposed NOW when it's been going on for centuries. for a so-called advanced species we have SO much to learn and become ....!

In October 2022, West African cocoa growers from Ivory Coast and Ghana boycotted a cocoa trade group meeting in Belgium to protest continuing exploitation of cacao growers. The growers claim they receive only 6% of revenues from the highly profitable multi-billion dollar chocolate trade. In 2019, growers were promised a minimum price of $400 per tonne, deemed to be enough to lift them from POVERTY. Instead, cocoa commodity buyers reneged and are only paying an average of $260 per tonne in those two countries. Cocoa growing is a labor-intensive and skilled process.

The Cocoa Plantations abuse of underaged children must be stopped. While the Ivory Coast of Africa and Ghana produces 60% of the worlds chocolate. Many people today are misinformed concerning the abuse that is being allowed to take place with the five year old girls and boys working for the Chocolate Industries Cocoa Plantations. The children are being raped, sodomized, and murdered. Read the book, "The Cocoa Plantations America's Chocolate Secret..." by Raymond C Christian

Birdiemom, since it only grows well 20° north and south of the equator, the continent of Africa (which spans north & south of the equator has conditions more fitting to its growth.

Cacao was 'domesticated' ?, thought that only applies to animals ..

luckycatfay, maybe it was but changed, it’s a shame to see production leave the homeland or surrounding areas. It’s like vanilla bean that’s no longer grown in the place of its homeland either.
