"the first collision of two celestial bodies to ever be observed" makes this a pretty fricken cool fact.
Centenarian
Those who answered Earth...hmmm???
LittleRaven94
That's pretty flippin' cool.
Socrates
Shoemaker Levy was making progress towards earth and people were bracing for the impact. Had that happened, Earth would have been wiped out. However, the comet swerved towards Jupiter and slammed into it.

LittleRaven94, I was lucky enough to see Comet Hale-Bopp in 1995.
Sadly, for those who didn't see it, it's reappearance is estimated to be in 4380. Sorry!
Player en_846
I didn't know, I just chose the biggest planet for the odds.
Player #8160008
but if Jupiter is gas, how can it collide with anything?
footnie55
Koplfer, Yes, not quite time for that stuff yet...

MOST OF THESE QUESTIONS REQUIRE A PROCESS OF ELINMINATION. YOU FIGURE WHICH ANSWER DOSENT GO WITH THE QUESTION.

Socrates, I don’t think comets swerve…
CyanJaguar62
There were only two choices that are planets, Jupiter and Earth. The other two are moons. That made it easy.
Player Bearagexal
Think l'd remember if it hit Earth, so went with Jupes😁
Steve Reekie
Just as well it hit Jupiter and not Earth. We would be history.
Player #43490537
same question asked in reverse way earlier
Fun guy
most comets are loosely packed ice & minerals, even crashing in a gaseous planet like Jupiter it would burn up & fall apart...- agree: hard target to miss !
Sharon
just answered a question re hale-bopp comet, one of the comments said they thought it had hit Jupiter but was thumbed down. so when this question came up I figured i knew the answer lol.

Player BARTEMAEUS 10, too much money is wasted on these collisions. We can use all that money here on earth for poverty and shelter!!
