How old are horses that run in the Kentucky Derby?

3 years old horses are mere teenagers, compared to humans, and they are often broken in at the age of 2, which equals a human 13. As their bones and joints are strained at this early age ( while still growing), they often do not have a great lifespan, and sometimes bones break during a race. Imho it is a cruel sport. Dislike.
