I remember the quote from The Berenstain Bears: Stalactites and stalagmites, only caves have got `em. Tites are always on the top, and mites are on the bottom.

Ah the day. it iced up so fast one night in the 80's, I went out in the rain to "do'' chores. I tried to get back in through theater curtains of ice and carpeting the up side of my barnyard. Only saw it ice up that quick an slick that one time. Left the milk in the barn and scooched on my buns on the ice in the yard. it really was a wonderfully time. Left milk in barn, slept warm in bed. I learned eventually that every battle need not be won to suit me.

My grandmother taught me that Stalactites (tights go from your waist down to your toes) Stalagmites (Termites crawl up their mound from the ground). Still to this day I can remember the difference.. :) Thanks Gramma!!

luckycatfay, I learned stalactites are hooked tight to the ceiling, and stalagmites might reach them from the floor.
