Fun fact: St. Giles Cathedral is not a cathedral. It was until the 1600s then it wasn't, then it was again and then not. In simplistic terms, the reason is the reformation when the Church of Scotland broke away from the Catholic church and stopped having bishops. The same is true for Glasgow Cathedral and Dunblane Cathedral.
