Who stated that the Sun was the center of the Universe?

Copernicus has discovered that the Sun is a center of our solar system, so the question is a little misleading

I think Aristarchus of Samos and several others had already said that the earth went around the sun but Copernicus made it mainstream.

Isabell-e, he did, but only by default! His model had not only the planets orbiting the Sun, but everything else too, so he did see it as the centre of the universe.

so the moral to the story .. Plato said that there doesn't have to be a cause for the motion of the planets in our sky .. the copernucis story is that science had better assume there is a cause, was scientifically right , ,at the time, but with better info we have a more complicated model .. there is no centre of the universe .

Isabell-e, and the explanation says some regard it as an important step in astronomy.. which also means many don't ... we say Galileo. has the proof of solar system model ,as Jupiter is a gas giant ,almost a star .. the moons of Jupiter .. it had to be a model of a solar system

Eddy, I think that the random thoughts of many millions of people weren't recorded , and we are only looking at greek philosophers notes ..it's a discussion of what info copernucis had. did he have proof ..

Isabell-e, but we are at the centre of the known universe ... but that's simple because a telescope must of course be here .. so the sun is approximately centre ... I think the point is Copernicus didn't have much info to work on and we learn about why we know better now. . the history is earth centric , then heliocentric. , then modernity .. gravity ,solar systems ,galaxies.
