Which artist made the song "Drift Away" an international hit in 1973?

When they say "international hit for Dobie Gray" they really mean US and Canada. I don't think position 44 in Australia counts as a hit. It did reach the giddy heights of 15 in UK and 18 in Ireland for other artists.
