aren't geese birds?

Little known fact....he would shoot the birds and then pose them in natural settings so he could paint them. He was then able to see them close up and make sure his colors were accurate. Would hate for him to paint me.

Tinker20665, The Audubon Society might be active for habitat preservation, but Audubon himself was not active for species preservation - he apparently killed all the birds he painted, if the comments here are accurate.

[bobbo16], Sounds like Norman Bates taxidermy.

Lorraine4748, was horrified when I read that. Back in his time, artists couldn't paint from photographs. What a cruel way to create one's art.

Player Cosmo Chic, According to several comments here, he apparently killed the birds so he could pose them & paint them accurately. His art might have made you love birds, but I don't think he did - he just used them to further his career, the poor things.

So quick to judge when EVERYTHING was so different then. 100 years from now what will they think of our overpopulation?

RMCDM123, How else could he paint an accurate picture? He did beautiful work and benefited the public to indentify regional birds. Besides many natural history museums have a supply of stuffed animals on display

RMCDM123, then he ate them. Fact…
